Dr Iain D. Henry
Iain D. Henry is a Senior Lecturer in the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University.
Iain completed a PhD and MA at the Australian National University, and a BA at the University of New South Wales. In 2014 he was a visiting Fulbright Scholar at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
A graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy, he has previously worked for the Australian Army, the Australian Public Service, and Qantas Airways.
Iain's first book, Reliability and Alliance Interdependence: The United States and Its Allies in Asia, 1949-1969, will be published in the Cornell Studies in Security Affairs series in May 2022.
Research Interest
Iain's research focuses on alliance politics, with a particular emphasis on how states assess the reliability of their allies. His research interests include Asian security, the Cold War in Asia, diplomatic history and Australian strategic policy.
Iain’s research has appeared in International Security, Contemporary Politics, the Australian Journal of International Affairs and Security Challenges. He has published commentary in The Canberra Times and the Nikkei Asian Review, as well as through blogs such as Lawfare.
