Hongzhou Chen is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of International Relations. Chen’s doctoral thesis explores the influence of the ancient Chinese sage-king (聖王) leadership tradition on PRC leaders’ foreign policy-making, focusing on how leaders’ background knowledge of leadership norms drives the state’s foreign policy performance. Chen’s broad research interests range from foreign policy analysis, constructivist theory, leadership study, Chinese political thoughts, and Asia Pacific dynamics. Chen holds a Master of International Relations (Advanced) from the ANU.
